Wyzant is a US-based online marketplace that connects students with independent tutors across academic, test-prep, music, and professional subjects. Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Chicago, it is one of the largest tutoring marketplaces in the United States and was acquired by IXL Learning in 2021. It runs a self-serve model in which tutors build their own profiles, set their own rates, and manage their own schedules rather than being assigned by Wyzant.

Students search and filter tutor profiles by subject, rate, ratings, and availability, then message tutors and book lessons directly. Lessons can be delivered online through Wyzant’s built-in Learning Studio (video chat, interactive whiteboard, text editor, code editor, and document sharing) or in person where available. Wyzant lists more than 65,000 tutors across 200+ subjects, with student reviews and ratings serving as the main trust signal.

Pricing is set by individual tutors and typically ranges from roughly $35 to $65 per hour, though rates can run lower or much higher by subject. Wyzant retains a 25% platform fee, leaving tutors 75% of their posted rate; tutors who refer a brand-new student keep 100% of their rate for that student. It suits US learners who want to choose and vet their own tutor on a flexible, pay-per-lesson basis.
