Why this matters before finals week
Most courses weight the final exam somewhere between 10% and 50% of the overall grade. That weight decides everything: with a 10% final, your course grade is mostly locked in already; with a 40% final, one exam can move you a full letter grade in either direction.
Knowing the exact score you need turns vague exam stress into a concrete target. If you need a 62%, you can relax and focus on your weakest topics. If you need a 96%, you know it's time to plan serious revision — or talk to your teacher about extra credit while there's still time.
If the number looks impossible
A required score above 100% means the grade you want is mathematically out of reach on the final alone — the calculator will show you the best grade you can still finish with, so you can reset your target. A required score of 0% or below means congratulations: your target grade is already secured no matter what happens on the final.
If you're short of where you want to be, a few focused sessions with a tutor before the exam are one of the highest-leverage moves you can make. Browse our test prep and homework help platforms to find same-week help.
How the numbers are worked out
- Your course grade is assumed to be: current grade × (1 − final weight) + final score × final weight.
- The score you need is therefore: (target grade − current grade × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight.
- Example: 78% current grade, final worth 30%, target 80% → (80 − 78 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = 84.7% needed on the final.
- Everything runs in your browser — nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
